CAPE TOWN, 29 September 2026 - Following initial social media reports regarding a fatal crash involving cyclists on Sunday morning, 27 September, the Pedal Power Association (PPA) has engaged directly with the South African Police Service (SAPS) to verify the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Kleinvlei Police Station confirmed the details in an official statement:
"The South African Police Service has registered two counts of culpable homicide following an incident that occurred on the R102 Strand Road on Sunday 27 September 2026 at about 05:30m. According to reports, two adult males were cycling to work, and they were bumped by a silver-grey Hyundai i10. Both men were declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation."
The PPA extends its sincere condolences to the families and loved ones affected by this tragedy. The association will monitor the investigation closely to ensure justice is served, while continuing to collaborate with law enforcement agencies nationwide on similar cases.
"It truly concentrates the mind when so many tragic and unnecessary deaths are occurring on our roads," said Neil Robinson, CEO of the Pedal Power Association.

Our ongoing stance is that adequate safety and prevention measures, including quality infrastructure, continuous road safety education, and visible and competent policing. A well-resourced NPA and measured legal penalties are essential to addressing this crisis on our roads."
